Van Lier Playwriting Fellowship

New Dramatists is currently administering the 2010-2011 cycle of the Van Lier Playwriting Fellowship Program with playwright recipients Jon Kern, Kristine Haruna Lee, and Harrison David Rivers. We are not accepting applications for fellowship at this time.

The Van Lier Fellowship is a two-year program established to help young, economically disadvantaged playwrights living in New York City develop their talent and become involved in the professional theatre community.  Eligible playwrights include U.S. citizens who are Asian-American, African-American, Native American or Latino. Past Van Lier Fellows have included Robert O’Hara, Carmen Rivera, Steven Sapp, New Dramatists Alumni Lynn Nottage, Diana Son, Eisa Davis and Sung Rno. Fellowship recipients are provided with a fellowship grant, a mentor (New Dramatists resident playwright) and opportunities to workshop their plays with professional actors and directors.

If you would like to be notified of future Van Lier Fellowship application deadlines, please email us at newdramatists@newdramatists.org. We will contact you should we receive funding for a future cycle of this program. The Van Lier Fellowship is made possible thought a grant from the Edward and Sally Van Lier Fund of the New York Community Trust.
